Academy of Finance Job Shadow Day

February 2018

On February 14th, eight students left Chopticon High School to spend the day with Cedar Point employees. The Academy of Finance provided students with a hands-on opportunity to see how a financial institution works. Throughout the day, different employees spent time with the students, talking about what makes their job critical to a credit union’s success.

Canned Food Drive

October 2017

Nearing the holidays each year, area residents are bursting with good will to help our community members in need of food. This year, our food drive was extremely successful.

With a whopping 232 pounds of food, we were able to donate to two local pantries. In St. Mary's County, we donated to Our Lady of the Wayside's Mary Lou Gough Food Pantry. In Calvert County, we donated to S.M.I.L.E. in Lusby.

Many thanks to the community for your generous donations!

Haunted Ship at Historic St. Mary's City

October 2017

Once a year, the historic town plays host to a unique event in Southern Maryland. The Maryland Dove, a replica of the ship which brought the first colonists from Britain, was transformed into a not-so-spooky “Haunted” Ship. Much to the delight of local families, there was plenty of candy handed out, and there were exciting games to be played while waiting for a very special tour of the Dove.

While the ship wasn’t really haunted, it was a fantastic opportunity for parents to educate their children about Maryland’s long history in the colonies. Because of event sponsors like Cedar Point, Historic St. Mary’s City was able to offer this as a free event for families, giving local residents a fun and carefree night out.

Solomons Dragon Boat Festival

August 2017

In August, some of our employees took to the water in the Solomons Dragon Boat Festival. As the major sponsor of the event, we wanted to make a splash! Here are a few images of the event and team “CPFCU at the Finish Line” competing for bragging rights and a trophy.

The proceeds from this event supported Southern Maryland Community Resources, an organization that provides inclusive programming for community members with developmental differences.

Twenty-four Cedar Point employees volunteered to help at the event. Eight employees handed out fun giveaways from our booth, seventeen employees paddled in the dragon boat, and we even had three family members helping paddle us across the finish line!

Events Dragon Boat Group

What a lesson in teamwork this was! Employees from all six branches participated in the festival, including our CEO and several Branch Managers. We had at least one employee from every department step up to the challenge, and we sailed on to victory by working as a team!

With a personal best time of one minute and three seconds, CPFCU crossed the line with a splash!
